MINISTRY FOCUS

Ken and Julie began their 41-year adventure with Cadence International (Overseas Christian Servicemen’s Centers) in October of 1982. Their first assignment was to love the Marines and Sailors at Camp Hansen in Okinawa, Japan. To them, there was no greater joy than to experience a room full of Marines singing praises to the Lord! In 1991 they moved to Fairbanks, Alaska to start a house ministry at Ft. Wainwright. Julie thought this would be a four to six year assignment. However, it became a wonderful, 32-year ministry to the precious Army men and women stationed there. After Ken’s PCS to heaven, November 17, 2021, Julie has continued to serve the wives and single women soldiers as she has opportunity, through Bible Studies, seminars, and retreats. Beginning January 2024, she will also be working with the Mobilization Team as they guide applicants through the process of serving with Cadence in various ministries.

FAITH

Ken joined the Navy after high school. During his first year in the Navy, under the ministry of the Navigators, Ken heard the gospel for the first time and trusted Jesus as his Savior. After his schooling to become a Corpsman, God sent him to Okinawa where he was discipled under Abe and Ellen Teeny at the Hansen Chrisian Center.

Julie was raised in a religious home where she attended a Lutheran church every Sunday. She always believed that God was real, and that Jesus died for the sins of the world, but it was not until her first year of college that she came to understand that Jesus died for her. She trusted Him as her Savior and Lord and promised to serve Him all her life.

FAMILY

After Julie was saved, she went to Bible School for four years. Halfway through her junior year, a very handsome guy showed up at school. He had very short hair for the early 70s, so she figured he had been in the service. She was right. After his time in the Navy, Ken came to Bible School and after Julie graduated, they were married. When Ken graduated, they moved on to Seminary where Ken received his MDIV. God gave them four outstanding sons—Jeremy, Jason, Jonathan, and Joshua. Julie says the best part about having children is the privilege of being a grandparent. She has ten of the most fantastic grandchildren you would ever want to meet! They are all living in the Fairbanks area, so they get together quite often. Julie would love to introduce you to them all if you are ever able to come for a visit.
