MINISTRY FOCUS

Kailani is excited to join Cadence as a Limited Term Missionary Staff member in her “golden years.” Her adult children support her decision to serve God in any capacity, wherever it will take her. She is very familiar with military culture as she was born on an Air Force base, and her father served in the military until he retired when she was in college. She joined the Army, and then the Army Reserves and her son chose to serve in the Navy. She looks forward to sharing life with and ministering to the military community.

FAITH

Growing up in a very regimented religious home, she did not know the Lord, but she did know church doctrine. She tried exploring Buddhism in college, as her mother was from Japan. When questioning her mother about it, she replied, “Buddha never died for your sins.” While she was in the Army, her three-year-old daughter witnessed to her and she found a relationship with God. She was born again and baptized, and her daughter was dedicated to the Lord.

FAMILY

Kailani’s father, who was in the Marines and then the Air Force, met her mother in Japan after the Second World War. As a child, her mother had learned enough English from missionaries to work as a clerk typist and interpreter on the Marine base. Her parents had five children and were married for 56 years. She is the middle child and has two older brothers, a younger brother, and a sister. Kailani has three daughters and one son, all grown and living independently. She also has two granddaughters and three grandsons.
