God's Generous Living Water

Sunday, November 01, 2009

Water and air top the list of essential elements to live, without question, but how it comes to us brings special meaning when it is seen as symbolic of the spiritual thirst with which we all were created.

As Cadence International ministers to foreign military, the gift of clean water is met with the knowledge that it was not merely the idea and work of an organization but the application of God’s tender hands. This is the story of bringing clean water into Cambodia and how missionaries met a practical need and Christ was revealed.

The week of August 22nd, 2009, Paul Bradley was visiting the nearly completed water supply project at Unit 14 near Pursat, Cambodia, when a small boy and his mother came up to use the water from the tank to bathe. Paul asked Sareth (Cadence International national leader) to ask the boy what he thought of the project and the boy replied, “This is the water that comes from Jesus."

We have no idea if this mom and her son even know the Lord (Paul had never seen them before), but is amazing that this boy believes that this clean water source comes from Him. Paul commented, “I love the fact that he did not answer with: 'the water that comes from Cadence International,' but that they knew it was from the Lord.”

The project was well underway in May of 2009 as the holding and filter tank was in place, and certainly success is attributed to prayers of Cadence International supporters that have brought the project to completion in August. The tank will supply year-round clean water for families, a medical clinic, and eventually a community center. Paul sees this water being used for its intended purpose as a reward in itself. It was another one of those moments that confirm the great impact community development is when coupled with the gospel of Christ Jesus.
